The Yolos to perform at the Odd Fellows Lodge on Thursday, November 7, 2013

Richie Lawrence and his band, The Yolos, feature a veteran crew of Northern California players.  Winters, CA native, Keith Cary, from R. Crumb’s Cheap Suit Serenaders, The Davis Symphony Orchestra, and builder of the world renowned bedpanndolin (a stainless steel resonator mandolin), contributes on all things stringed.  Bart van der Zeeuw on drums, originally from The Netherlands, and Scott Prawalsky, on upright bass, from Auburn, CA, are the current go-to rhythm section for the north.  They appear in more bands than I have socks in my sock drawer and cover the gamut of cool styles including Haitian, Americana, Honkytonk, French Hot Club, and flat out rockin Roots.  The icing on the cake is newest member, Katie Thomas, a rising star on vocals.  The Yolos perform songs penned by singer, songwriter, piano and accordion player extraordinaire, Richie Lawrence, sideman to I See Hawks In LA and Ray Bonneville. Veteran of TV and live performance, multiple band CDs and 2 current solo CDs, Melancholy Waltz (2010) and Water (2012).  All adds up to create a sound unique in Americana; eclectic, heartfelt, and, quoting D. M. Collins of The L.A. Record, “Richie’s voice is gentle and insistent…never intrusive but impossible to ignore.  His music is strange and wonderful”.  Penny Harding (The Arts and Other Stuff) says, “Even when I’m tired, beat down by the week, and swear I’ll only stay for one set, I end up closing the place down so that I can soak up every delicious morsel of his music”.

Me and Him is the exceptional guitar duo of Kurt Roggli and Martin Lewis. The rich blend of their 2 Martin guitars is a pure delight. Taking cues from Martin’s Welsh roots their music encompasses traditional Celtic tunes as well as contemporary American Folk and Bluegrass. They also take popular songs and make them their own with ear-pleasing results. Kurt has played guitar in !Akimbo, Waiting for Bruce, and most recently with Biscuits and Honey. Martin grew up playing guitar in England and Wales, and has played locally with Dave Nachminoff.

Thursday Live! is sponsored each month by the Davis Odd Fellows Music and Concert Committee with help from KDRT. For more information, or to be added to the email list, contact Juelie Roggli, juelrog@gmail.com or 530/219-5444.
