Fraternal Greetings from Themis Lodge #75, located in Alexandria, Louisiana. We are excited to bring you this first issue of the Themis Lodge Newsletter.

First we would like to talk a bit about Odd Fellowship, and what it is all about. So what is Odd Fellowship? Well many people will say it is this or it is that, but to myself and especially members of Themis Lodge #75, Odd Fellowship is community. We fully believe in and practice equality in all things. We believe in helping others. We believe in the four tenets of Odd Fellowship, which are Relieving the Distressed, Visiting the Sick, Burying the Dead, and Educating the Orphan. We not only advocate for equality, but assist any that may need help, member or not, as is said in one of our Tenets.

In the lodge, we have chosen Themis to represent our beliefs we hold as a lodge, because of the values, and virtues we hold sacred to and associate with Themis, the ancient Greek Goddess. Themis, Greek meaning “Order” in Greek Religion, personification of Justice, goddess of Wisdom and Good Counsel, and the interpreter of the gods’ will. Wisdom and Good Counsel being especially of substance to our lodge Philosophy. We are personally striving to not only revive the Independent Order of Odd Fellows here in the southern United States, but are working towards building up the values, morals, and ethics of an Odd Fellow, and applying this to ourselves to better our minds and spirits towards that ultimate goal of achieving our four sacred Tenets.

We welcome all who may be interested in learning more about Odd Fellowship, and especially all who are already Brothers or Sisters.

Independent Order of Odd Fellows “Open House”

Over 100 years ago, the best method used by many fraternal groups, such as the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, to attract people is to have that "mysterious awe" or that "secret society fascination" because it generates public "curiosity". Exclusivity was a trend...
